I recently joined Citi as a guy. The man responsible for helping me set up my Mac was called Andrew, lets say. He said I had a surprisingly short last name for my people. He also felt my parents would be proud of me for having achieved what I have. I said it is just par for the course, at which point he laughed. He said he was Jewish and neither a lawyer nor a doctor and his parents should have nothing to be proud of him for. I said, "But you do live in Long Island. So that's something." I din't know he lived in Long Island.

I was at Dumbo, Brooklyn to check out the 4th of July fireworks. There was rain in the forecast and to no one's surprise, it rained! I stood by a wall, where I ran into an old lady from West Texas. I'm assuming she smoked a lot, because she smelled like cigarettes. She told me she had a son who wanted to perform on Broadway, like a Broadway performer. She was afraid there'd be a bombing because it was the end of Ramadan and "those people" would want to go out with a bang. She was happy it rained because she felt it would affect "their" plans.

We had happy hour one evening after a demo. There were two Irish guys discussing Irish things like beer. One guy had moved from Seattle and another guy from Los Angeles. They were discussing about Brexit and how it would affect the UK in the long run. Another guy asked the guy who moved in from Seattle if he hated the weather there? The guy from LA said he hated the same type of weather over and over again. He also said he needed some variety. My team lead said "Variety is good". I said "It's the spice of life."
